Picture a place that offers both Vegas thrills and quiet escapes: that’s Winchester. Winchester is an unincorporated town in Clark County. It contains part of the famous Las Vegas Strip.

Winchester’s story begins in the early 1950s. Las Vegas Mayor Ernie Cragin wanted to annex the Strip. This annexation would expand the city’s tax base. Casino executives like Gus Greenbaum sought town status to avoid this. They lobbied county commissioners for protection. On December 8, 1950, the commission created the town of Paradise. A month later, it expanded to include Paradise Valley residential areas.

However, the town’s formation was flawed. The petition lacked enough signatures. It also violated state law about spanning school districts. In August 1951, two new towns replaced it. Town “A” became Winchester in 1953. Town “B” became Paradise.

Today, Winchester sits east-central in the Las Vegas Valley. It borders Las Vegas to the north. Paradise is to the west and south. Sunrise Manor is to the east. Sahara Avenue marks the northern border. Boulder Highway is to the east. Desert Inn Road is to the south. The Union Pacific Railroad tracks are mostly to the west.

Winchester is home to part of the Vegas Strip. Notable casinos here include the Sahara and Circus Circus. Circus Circus boasts the Adventuredome. This indoor theme park features rides, games, and a miniature golf course.

Winchester offers a unique lifestyle. It is close to the Strip’s excitement. Yet, it provides quiet residential streets. The population was 36,403 at the 2020 census.

The Winchester Cultural Center celebrates community arts. Winchester Park offers outdoor activities. These include picnicking and sports. Winchester’s housing includes single-family homes and apartments. This variety suits different lifestyles.

Winchester fosters a strong community. Residents gather for events. The Neighborhood Advisory Board addresses local needs. New businesses are revitalizing the area.

Winchester is a great place to relax. It is a safe and walkable neighborhood. You can easily access the Vegas Strip. Then retreat to a quiet, family-friendly environment. Winchester offers the best of both worlds. It blends urban amenities with a neighborly atmosphere.
