Craving a beach day near Hamburg? Then picture yourself at Wilstedter See. This lake, also known as Costa Kiesa, offers a refreshing escape. Wilstedter See is located between Tangstedt and Norderstedt. It is easily accessible for a quick getaway.

The Wilstedter See originated from a former gravel pit. Today, it spans approximately 25 hectares. You should know that the eastern shore is still an active gravel extraction site. A working gravel excavator is usually present. Access to this area is restricted for safety reasons.

However, the western and northwestern shores boast the Costa Kiesa beach. Here, a narrow sandy strip meets the water. A larger wooded area provides a scenic backdrop. Access to the Wilstedter See is easy via Schleswig-Holstein-Strasse on the western shore. A small path runs along the western, southwestern, and southern banks. Harksheider Strasse ensures convenient access to the southeastern part of the lake. A small road branching off this street leads close to the southeastern shore.

The lake does not have any natural inlets or outlets. So the water quality depends on other factors. Wilstedter See is a popular spot for swimming. Swimming is allowed between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m.. Keep in mind that Costa Kiesa is an unsupervised bathing area.

Anglers will find a variety of fish in Wilstedter See. These include eel, zander, carp, trout, pike, and tench. Various types of whitefish also swim in the lake. Fishing at Wilstedter See is restricted to members of the Sportanglerinteressengemeinschaft Proppenkieker Kaltenkirchen Tangstedt von 1973 e.V.. Unfortunately, guest fishing permits are not available.

If you’re planning a day at Wilstedter See, remember to bring your own food and drinks. Several bus lines serve the lake. You can take bus line 378 to the “Costa Kiesa” bus stop. From there, a path leads directly to the lake.

Please note that a fence surrounds the lake. It has lockable gates. A security service monitors compliance with the night’s rest. Wilstedter See offers a blend of recreation and nature. It provides a welcome retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. So come and enjoy a relaxing day at Wilstedter See.
