“Remembered, not forgotten.” That’s the silent promise etched on this Wilhelm Beuermann Plaque. The Wilhelm Beuermann Plaque commemorates a man who lived and breathed art. Wilhelm Beuermann was a painter, graphic artist, and poet who left an indelible mark on Hanover.

Let’s delve into the story of Wilhelm Beuermann. He was born in Berlin on March 21, 1937. The young Beuermann’s artistic journey began at the Werkkunstschule Hannover. He studied graphic arts there from 1955 to 1959. He honed his skills further at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. There, he worked in the atelier of J. Friedländer. Later, he went to the Hochschule für bildende Künste in Berlin. Here, he explored sculpture and painting under Professor Gonda and Professor Bachmann.

Wilhelm Beuermann’s talent quickly gained recognition. In 1962, he received a grant from the Institut Français. This allowed him to pursue his art freely. He settled in Hanover in 1963. There, he dedicated his life to painting. In 1970, Beuermann became a member of the Deutscher Künstlerbund.

From 1971, Wilhelm Beuermann shared his life and work with Rosemarie Würth. She was a graphic artist and draftswoman. They married in 1963. For many years, they spent months in studios in Liguria and Sardinia. These Mediterranean sojourns profoundly impacted Beuermann’s art. He was fascinated by the stark beauty of deserted cityscapes. He liked the harsh shadows on sun-drenched walls.

Wilhelm Beuermann’s artistic style evolved over time. His early works featured rounded, organic forms. The 1970s saw the rise of ribbon motifs in his paintings. By the late 1970s, ribbon motifs merged with architectural views. In the 1990s, ships became a dominant theme. Later, Beuermann explored natural forms. He liked stone formations in his new visual worlds. His earlier works had vibrant colors. His later paintings were dominated by gray, black, and beige tones.

Wilhelm Beuermann’s art wasn’t limited to canvas. He won several competitions for art in public spaces. In 1974, he created a mural for the Lutherschule sports hall in Hanover-Nordstadt. This mural had blue shimmering vertical bands. It stretched over 50 meters along Asternstraße. The facade was renovated in 2015. A plaque now commemorates the original mural. It features a restored architectural photograph.

Wilhelm Beuermann also created a mural of enameled cassettes for a post office building. This building was in Hannover-Laatzen and finished in 1988. In 1990, he created the mural “Der runde Tisch”. It was in the casino of the Heinrich-der-Löwe-Kaserne in Braunschweig. He also designed walls for a subway station in Cologne. He worked on a light shaft in the stairwell of the Kunstverein Hannover.

Poetry became increasingly important to Wilhelm Beuermann in the 1980s. He wrote in diaries and poems. Wilhelm Beuermann died in Hanover on October 1, 2006. His legacy lives on through his art. He left behind a rich tapestry of paintings, graphics, and poems. A plaster sculpture from his first year of study was copied in red granite in 2007 by the sculptor Jürgen Friede. It stands on Wilhelm Beuermann’s grave. It is in the Stadtfriedhof Engesohde in Hanover.

The Wilhelm Beuermann Plaque serves as a reminder. It is a reminder of his creative spirit and contributions to the art world. Take a moment to reflect on Wilhelm Beuermann’s journey. Consider his dedication to his craft. Let this place inspire you to pursue your own creative passions.
