Ever imagine a school selling its own building? WIHOGA Dortmund did just that. In April 2023, WIHOGA Dortmund sold its newly built campus to the Dortmund Chamber of Commerce and Industry. This modern campus, erected just across from the serene Rombergpark in 2007, now serves as an examination, event, and further education center. But don’t worry, WIHOGA Dortmund isn’t gone. They remain as a tenant and cooperation partner, continuing their legacy of providing top-tier education in hospitality, gastronomy, trade, and services. WIHOGA Dortmund’s journey began in 1959. The North Rhine-Westphalia DEHOGA State Association established it as a vocational school. Initially a hotel management school, it evolved into the Wirtschaftsfachschule (WIHOGA) in 1971. Since then, the WIHOGA Dortmund has been renowned for its certified business economist program specializing in the hotel and restaurant industry. Over time, WIHOGA Dortmund expanded its offerings. It now includes a hotel vocational school for basic training. It even added a “Catering Management” program, recognized with an innovation award. Graduates of the certified business economist program also have the unique opportunity to pursue an MBA at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island. WIHOGA Dortmund continuously adapts to the changing market. It embraces a growth strategy through diversification. Since 2016, its name reflects its broader educational scope, encompassing trade and other service sectors. WIHOGA Dortmund also looks towards the future with AI-supported educational and training services for the hospitality industry. Looking at their current educational programs you find different pathways. The Hotel Vocational School offers hands-on experience in culinary, hotel, and restaurant professions. Students manage the in-house restaurant and kitchen, serving the school community. The Business High School offers a path to higher education with specializations in E-Commerce, Hospitality Business, and Fashion and Luxury Management. For those seeking further specialization, the Hospitality Management Assistant program is a two-year full-time vocational training course. The Business School offers a state-certified business economist degree in four semesters for experienced hospitality professionals. WIHOGA Dortmund also has a unique partnership with the Academy for Business Management (AFUM) and Buckinghamshire New University. This partnership allows students to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management alongside their state-certified business economist degree. For those aspiring to even greater heights, WIHOGA Dortmund offers an MBA program in collaboration with Buckinghamshire New University. Even working professionals are not forgotten. The WIHOGA Summer Academy offers practical seminars and workshops during the summer break. WIHOGA Dortmund provides not only a top-notch education but a vibrant campus experience with a dormitory, communal areas, and a student-run restaurant.
