A haven of Chinese art. That’s the White Rabbit Gallery. Right here in Chippendale Sydney. Judith Neilson founded this incredible place in 2009. She wanted to share her amazing collection of contemporary Chinese art with the world. It’s not just any collection. This is one of the largest and most comprehensive in the world. Over 800 artists. Thousands of pieces. The numbers are staggering.

Imagine walking through this former Rolls-Royce service depot. Architect William Smart transformed it. Now it’s a stunning space filled with light. The building itself is a work of art. Three floors dedicated to showcasing the ever-expanding collection. The White Rabbit Gallery hosts two exhibitions a year. Each one involves completely reinstalling the works. They even close for several weeks during this process. This ensures that visitors see something fresh and new.

Neilson’s journey began in the 1990s in a Sydney gallery. She stumbled upon something unlike anything she had ever seen. That’s when it all started. Her collection grew exponentially over the years. She collaborated with artist Wang Zhiyuan. He guided her purchases and introduced her to other significant artists. This led to numerous trips to China and Taiwan.

The White Rabbit Gallery isn’t just a museum. It is a testament to Neilson’s passion. This passion is for Chinese art. It’s a cultural exchange. It brings Chinese contemporary art to a global audience. It’s also a completely free experience. So step inside and explore the creative energy of China. Each visit will be different because of the ever-changing exhibitions. The White Rabbit Gallery is a true gem in Sydney’s artistic landscape. A must-see for art lovers. And for anyone who appreciates the power of art to bridge cultures.
