The WestendDuo isn’t just another skyscraper. Its innovative design is truly remarkable. Notice how the two towers are slightly skewed. This wasn’t an accident. It’s a clever architectural choice that maximizes space and light. Inside those folded ceilings a hidden secret lies. Despite its impressive height the building integrated all its services within the ceilings. No interior columns were needed. This allowed for incredible flexibility in the floor plan. Think of it as a giant Lego structure.
The building’s four reinforced concrete cores are its backbone. They’re anchored deep within the four-story basement and foundation. This ingenious design makes the WestendDuo incredibly stable.
Completed in 2006 the WestendDuo was a groundbreaking achievement. The innovative ceiling system allowed for an extra floor. This wouldn’t have been possible with a traditional system. Before the WestendDuo stood another building. This was a 1960s high-rise by the architect Egon Eiermann. Despite its stylish design it wasn’t considered worthy of preservation. Similar buildings exist in the Niederrad office district.
