Is it possible for a church to have a “heart and passion”? At West University Church of Christ, that’s exactly what you’ll find. Right here in the heart of West University Place, this vibrant community is more than just a building. It’s a testament to faith, resilience, and the enduring power of the human spirit. West University Church of Christ started modestly, with just 39 souls gathered in a member’s home in January 1939. Their first meeting place was a theater, followed by an elementary school. They finally settled in the West University Civic Center before laying the foundation for their own building. Imagine the congregation, filled with hope, witnessing their dreams taking shape in January 1949 when plans were drawn for the new auditorium. West University Church of Christ has always been a reflection of its diverse community, a microcosm of Houston itself. Students, teachers, doctors, and entrepreneurs – people from all walks of life – have found solace and fellowship within these walls. Bound by their shared faith, they’ve created a legacy that continues to inspire and uplift. As you stand before this house of worship, remember that you are not just observing history, you are standing on the very ground where it was made. Every brick, every hymn sung, and every prayer whispered has contributed to the rich tapestry of West University Church of Christ.
