South of Century City is the affluent Cheviot Hills neighborhood. It has lots of parks and large suburban homes. Bel-Air and Brentwood sit on the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains. These fashionable neighborhoods are full of mansions. Some have been home to celebrities.
West Los Angeles enjoys a cooler climate. This is due to its proximity to the Pacific Ocean. Summer temperatures can be 10-15 degrees cooler than inland locations. Constant sea breezes contribute to this. Fog is a common occurrence. Especially in May and June.
Interstate 405 passes through West Los Angeles. It sits just south of the Sepulveda Pass. The area is noted for high levels of congestion. Especially during rush hour.
LAX is about 20-30 minutes away. It has a very large number of flights.
Metro Rail’s Expo Line parallels I-10 through West L.A. It tends to be the fastest transit service from Downtown L.A. It stops in Palms and Sawtelle.
