In 1943, a small seed of faith was planted in Los Angeles. This seed blossomed into the West Angeles Church of God in Christ. Elder Clarence E. Church founded this church. The original sanctuary stood humbly on Adams Boulevard, near the Santa Monica Freeway. The West Angeles Church of God in Christ quickly became a beacon of hope and spiritual guidance. In 1969, a new chapter began. Charles E. Blake became the pastor, leading the church into an era of tremendous growth. The congregation expanded from a mere 40 members to over 24,000. The church’s influence extended far beyond its walls, touching countless lives in the community and beyond. The growing congregation needed more space. In 1981, the West Angeles Church of God in Christ moved to a new building on Crenshaw Boulevard. This building featured a 1,000-seat auditorium. Just eighteen years later, in 1999, the church dedicated an even larger sanctuary, also on Crenshaw Boulevard. This new sanctuary boasts an impressive 5,000-seat auditorium, a testament to the church’s continued growth and influence. In 2019, the church sold its older building on Crenshaw Boulevard. This sale funded the construction of a Family Life Center behind the current sanctuary. The West Angeles Church of God in Christ continues to serve its community. It offers Sunday services at 10:00 am and Wednesday Bible Study at 7:00 pm. You can join in person or online. The current senior pastor, Charles Blake II, took the helm in 2022, continuing the church’s legacy of faith and service. The West Angeles Church of God in Christ remains a vibrant testament to the power of faith, community, and leadership.
