Wow. Look at the vibrant colors of the Welcome to Santa Monica Mural. This isn’t just any mural. It’s a postcard come to life. A giant greeting card celebrating Santa Monica.
The Welcome to Santa Monica Mural is more than just a pretty picture. It’s a testament to collaboration and community spirit. Created in 2019 it’s 8 feet high and 26 feet wide. It’s located at 315 Colorado Avenue. That’s just two blocks from the Santa Monica Pier and the Pacific Ocean.
The artists behind this masterpiece. They dreamed of painting here for years. They even drove Route 66 from Chicago to scout locations. They finally got permission four years later. This was their 32nd postcard mural. Imagine the dedication! They worked with Bloomingdale’s. The department store’s community initiative made this possible. The artists even designed a graphic for Bloomingdale’s Century City store.
Painting wasn’t easy. Los Angeles isn’t always sunny. They had to paint at night because of rain. Four days of painting. No major weather problems. They worked without their RV. They learned to appreciate the convenience of their RV after this project.
This mural was special. It was the Greetings Tour project’s first mural. One artist worked with local artists while the other was in Costa Rica. They reunited to finish it. Teamwork made the hard work enjoyable. Local friends Self Uno and Tewsr helped. They have similar graffiti roots.
So stand here. Soak in the vibrant colors. Feel the energy of this community artwork. This isn’t just a mural. It’s a story. It’s a snapshot of Santa Monica. A testament to art. Collaboration. And the enduring spirit of this amazing city.
