Twelve meters long. That’s how long the Welcome to Batam sign stretches across Bukit Clara. Imagine each letter ten meters tall and five meters wide. This isn’t just a sign it’s a statement. A bold declaration visible for kilometers.

Welcome to Batam is more than a roadside attraction. It’s a symbol of Batam’s incredible transformation. In 2010 it was completed. The project cost Rp472.4 million from the Batam City Budget. PT Hadi Lestari built it. The construction wasn’t easy. The hillside was steep. They needed careful planning. They even used a 20-ton crane.

The Welcome to Batam sign almost disappeared. In 2014 a company wanted to build apartments. They planned to excavate Bukit Clara. This threatened to cause a landslide. The city and the company reached an agreement. The excavation stopped. The sign remains a proud landmark.

The weight of the letters is impressive. The ‘W’ weighs 4.5 tons. The ‘E’ ‘M’ and ‘B’ weigh 4 tons each. The other letters weigh between 3 and 3.5 tons. The gigantic white letters were inspired by the Hollywood Sign.

The Welcome to Batam sign faces north. This is towards the Batam Center International Ferry Terminal. It’s a welcoming sight for arriving visitors and tourists. It’s a reminder that Batam is a place of growth and opportunity. A place where people from all over come together. It shows the island’s spirit. A spirit of resilience and ambition.

The Welcome to Batam sign is more than just a sign. It is a testament to the city’s will. It’s a symbol of its unique identity. It is a beacon welcoming all who arrive. It shows the island’s progress. It shows Batam’s dynamic spirit. So take a moment. Absorb the significance. This is Welcome to Batam.
