Isn’t it amazing how nature reclaims its space? Look around you! This stunning body of water, the Weitmannsee, was once a bustling quarry. The Weitmann Company, a major player in the region’s development, extracted gravel here, shaping the landscape that we see today. Their floating bucket-chain excavator, like a mechanical sculptor, carved its way through the earth, creating a tapestry of varying depths, the deepest point plummeting an impressive six meters. Imagine the roar of machinery and the dust filling the air! As the excavator moved along its track, it left behind small mounds, which, when later dredged, formed the charming islands that dot the Weitmannsee today. Today, the echoes of industry have faded, replaced by the joyous shouts of children splashing in the water and the peaceful lull of nature.
