William Payne Whitney’s donation in 1927 led to the Payne Whitney Psychiatric Clinic. In 1998 Sanford I Weill pledged $100 million. The school was renamed Weill Medical College of Cornell University. In 2015 it became Weill Cornell Medicine.
Weill Cornell has many notable alumni. Anthony Fauci served as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease. Wilson Greatbatch invented the artificial pacemaker. Mae C Jemison was an astronaut.
The college is affiliated with top medical centers. These include Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Rockefeller University. Since 2004 Weill Cornell has also been affiliated with Houston Methodist Hospital.
