What remains whispers stories of resilience. Here stands the Wegmarke für Mümmelmannsberg Sculpture, a testament to time and transformation. The Wegmarke für Mümmelmannsberg Sculpture, originally crafted in 1982 by Elk Knaake, once stood tall at three meters. It consisted of three distinct parts. The granite base, measuring 40 cm in diameter, grounds the sculpture. Traces of rust stain the granite, setting it apart from other sculptures in the area. A steel cylinder rises from the base at an angle. Originally, a wooden cylinder crowned the structure. These top two elements could even rotate. This sculpture is part of the Mümmelmannsberg housing complex. The complex itself, built between 1970 and 1979, is often called “Mümmelberg,” “M-Town,” or simply “Mümmel.” The Wegmarke für Mümmelmannsberg Sculpture, commissioned as part of the “Kunst am Bau” program, was purchased by Neue Heimat Nord, the company responsible for building the large Mümmelmannsberg housing estate. Sadly, the wooden cylinder is no longer present. The sculpture stands as a marker, not just for Mümmelmannsberg, but for the passage of time and the evolution of a community. The Wegmarke für Mümmelmannsberg Sculpture, now incomplete, continues to tell a story. It speaks of change and the enduring power of art in a dynamic urban environment.
