In May 2014, a wayside cross, the Wegekreuz am INSA-Haus, was blessed by Auxiliary Bishop Hauke. This cross, originally from the Altdöbern cemetery in Lower Lusatia, had been moved. The sign near the Wegekreuz am INSA-Haus tells of its journey. It was relocated in 1979 to make way for a coal mine. Now it stands here, a silent testament to a community lost and a faith preserved. The Wegekreuz am INSA-Haus is more than just a cross. It’s a tangible piece of history, a reminder of the people who once lived in Altdöbern, whose lives were disrupted by industrial progress. It symbolizes the enduring power of faith, finding a new home and a new purpose in Erfurt. The INSA-Haus itself, completed in September 2022, offers a modern counterpoint to the historical cross. The building, once a 19th-century inn, has been extensively renovated and expanded, showcasing a blend of old and new. The Wegekreuz am INSA-Haus stands in quiet contrast to the bustling activity of the research institute. It invites contemplation and reflection, a moment of peace amidst the modern world.
