This particular We Love Houston Too sculpture is at William P Hobby Airport. It’s a temporary installation. It’s been here for a year now. It measures 30 feet wide 16.5 feet tall and 6 feet deep. It’s made of cement canvas steel and panels. It sits on a concrete island. The island is protected by a guardrail and has a skylight.
Adickes himself is quite a character. He’s ninety-eight years old. He said he made this as one of his love letters to Houston. His granddaughters love it. Many Houston arts fans love it too. It is the perfect selfie spot.
The sculpture is a big hit. It welcomes passengers to Houston. It shows off the city’s vibrant art scene. It’s a part of Houston Airports’ World’s Best Airport Art Program. Alton DuLaney the curator of public art for Houston Airports thinks the sculpture makes Hobby Airport a cultural gateway. He thinks it shows the vibrant spirit of Houston. It really does.
