Listen closely. Have you heard the call of the wild the ocean’s cry for help? Wave Breaker: The Rescue Coaster at SeaWorld San Antonio is more than just a ride. It is a mission.
In 2017, SeaWorld San Antonio unveiled Wave Breaker. It became North America’s first jet ski roller coaster. Imagine jetting across the water. This ride makes you feel like you are part of the SeaWorld Animal Rescue Team. The coaster’s design places you in a straddled position. You grip the handle bars ready for action.
The story of Wave Breaker begins long before the first riders. The park’s lake was partially drained for construction. Inflatable rubber dams held back the water. SeaWorld regularly posted construction updates. The official opening was June 16, 2017.
Now seated and secure get ready. Wave Breaker starts with a video orientation. Then the train launches up a camelback hump. Feel the glide across the park’s lake. It simulates a jet ski adventure. The train launches again up the coaster’s tallest point. It is 61 feet high. This section briefly crosses land.
Wave Breaker: The Rescue Coaster is fast. It reaches speeds of 44 miles per hour. The track is 2600 feet long. Over 300 concrete pillars support it. Up to three trains can run at once. Each train holds 16 riders. That is eight rows of two. The ride can serve 886 riders per hour.
The composer Rick McKee created original music for Wave Breaker. This score plays in the queue and during the launch.
Theming is important. Wave Breaker: The Rescue Coaster is themed after SeaWorld’s animal rescue team. Most of the coaster is just above the water. This enhances the feeling of a rescue mission. Before the ride, you are assigned a mission. Will you rescue a sea turtle a dolphin or a sea lion?
Wave Breaker: The Rescue Coaster emphasizes SeaWorld’s animal rescue efforts. Guests race across the park’s lake. It creates the sensation of an actual rescue.
Wave Breaker isn’t just a thrill ride. It ranked among the best new rides of 2017. It got 6% of the vote in Amusement Today’s Golden Ticket Awards.
So as you race along the track remember the real heroes. The SeaWorld Animal Rescue Team has rescued over 30000 animals in the past 50 years. Wave Breaker: The Rescue Coaster is a tribute to their dedication. Feel the speed feel the mission and feel inspired.
