Before you stands Waterford State School. It’s a place where generations of young minds have embarked on their educational journeys since 1871. Waterford State School wasn’t always the grand establishment you see today. It began humbly as Logan Provisional School in a simple barn. The barn belonged to a local man named Charles Wilson. The official opening date was June 29, 1869. The school’s beginnings were modest. However, the community’s desire for a proper place of learning was anything but. In 1871, their efforts bore fruit with the construction of the first national school in the Logan Agricultural Reserve. This historic building, now known as Block A, still stands proudly on the school grounds. It reflects the architectural styles of its time. Waterford State School has grown alongside the community it serves. As the number of students increased, so too did the need for expansion. In 1884, a rear verandah was added to the original building. A second classroom and front verandah followed in 1888-1889. The schoolyard gained a new addition in 1898: a play shed where children could play during breaks. The play shed, with its later modifications, still stands today as a testament to the school’s long history. Waterford State School isn’t just a collection of buildings. It embodies a century and a half of memories, growth, and the pursuit of knowledge. Today, Waterford State School continues to nurture young minds. It provides them with the tools they need to succeed in an ever-changing world. The school stands as a reminder that education is the cornerstone of a thriving community. It represents the enduring legacy of those early settlers who dared to dream of a brighter future for generations to come.
