Can a place have two names without getting confused? Here at Wat Sai Ma Nuea, that’s exactly the case! You see, Wat Sai Ma Nuea wasn’t always alone. It has a neighbor, Wat Sai Ma Tai. They were both built around the same time, in the late Ayutthaya period, around 1757. To avoid any mix-ups, they were named after their locations. “Nuea” means North, and “Tai” means South. So, you see, Wat Sai Ma Nuea is the northern sibling! Wat Sai Ma Nuea itself is a beautiful example of Thai architecture. The Ubosot, for example, is decorated with intricate gabel apexes, toothlike rings, and Kanok patterns. The pediment is especially noteworthy – a true masterpiece from the Ayutthaya period. But Wat Sai Ma Nuea isn’t just about the temple grounds. Step outside, and you’ll find yourself at “Wang Mudcha,” or “Fish’s Palace.” This peaceful waterside area is shared with Wat Sai Ma Tai and shaded by beautiful banyan trees. It’s a popular spot to relax and even feed the schools of fish that call this place home. So, come, enjoy the tranquility of Wat Sai Ma Nuea and discover the charm of “Wang Mudcha,” a shared haven of peace between two neighboring temples.
