“Is that a Buddha statue from Bayon Temple?” you might ask as we stand before the majestic Wat Preah Vihear Bram Pi Lveng. Yes, this temple, rarely crowded by tourists, holds a secret treasure. The very Buddha statue gracing the main shrine hails from the depths of Bayon Temple itself. Imagine, in 1933, this statue emerged piece by piece from a hidden pit beneath Bayon’s central sanctuary. Reconstructed to its former glory, it found a new home here at Wat Preah Vihear Bram Pi Lveng. This temple, also known as Terrace #1, stands east of the Royal Palace in Angkor Thom. It’s the best-preserved Buddhist Terrace, a testament to the 13th-14th century Theravada Buddhist era. A long stone terrace, guarded by lions, leads you past elephant statues at the second elevation up to the shrine. Look closely, and you’ll find sema stones in different styles surrounding the shrine.
