“A place of peace and tranquility amidst the urban sprawl.” Wat Pluk Sattha, nestled in the heart of Lat Krabang in the eastern part of Bangkok, is a sight to behold. This temple, dedicated to the Buddhist faith, stands as a serene beacon in a constantly bustling city. Wat Pluk Sattha is a truly captivating example of Thai Buddhist architecture. It is more than a place of worship; it is a sanctuary for locals and visitors seeking solace and a connection to the divine.

The temple’s name, Wat Pluk Sattha, is quite literally translated to “Temple of the Plucked Fruit”, but the story behind the name is not as simple as one might think. It alludes to the history of this temple, a story of resilience and triumph against the odds. Centuries ago, a small community thrived along the banks of the Khlong Sam canal. They relied on the bounty of their gardens and orchards for sustenance. One day, a devastating flood swept through their humble village. It destroyed many of their crops, leaving the villagers in despair.

One of the villagers, a local farmer named Khun Bun, found himself disheartened. He wandered through his flooded garden, finding only desolation and loss. As he reached the edge of his orchard, he noticed a fruit tree, a mango tree, that still stood tall against the raging waters. It was as if the tree had plucked its fruit from the flood unharmed, refusing to succumb. Khun Bun, struck by this powerful symbol of resilience, took this mango tree as a hopeful omen. He rallied the villagers and, together, they rebuilt their lives. To honor the resilience of the mango tree and to celebrate the community’s spirit, they built a temple right next to the orchard. They named it Wat Pluk Sattha, after the mango tree that refused to be washed away.

Today, Wat Pluk Sattha stands as a monument to the steadfast spirit of the community. It is a reminder of their strength in the face of adversity and the enduring hope that resides in the human spirit. It is a haven where visitors can find peace and meditate, contemplate their own paths, and draw inspiration from the resilience of this ancient temple. Wat Pluk Sattha is more than just a place of worship; it is a living testament to the power of hope, a sanctuary where one can find peace and solace amidst the chaos.
