Wat Phun Ohn might be one of the smaller temples in Chiang Mai’s old city, but it holds a treasure. Constructed in 1501 under the reign of King Lanna Mueang Kaeo, its heart belongs to a breathtaking golden chedi. This isn’t just any chedi. Erected in 2007, it received the name Sareerikkatartsirirak Pagoda from King Bhumibol Adulyadej himself. Imagine the gleaming gold, adorned with red niches on each side, each housing a revered image of Buddha. But the beauty of Wat Phun Ohn extends beyond the chedi. Step inside, and you’ll find yourself before a grand sight. A large sitting Buddha image, replicating the famous Phra Chinnarat Buddha of Phitsanulok, graces the viharn. As you wander through the courtyard, notice the ancient Bodhi tree, its branches offering shade to a collection of smaller Buddha images.
