Once upon a time Wat Phleng wasn’t always a district. It started as something else entirely. Wat Phleng’s story is a journey through time.

The area was first known as Wat Pradu District. Its offices stood before Wat Pradu near a canal. Then the district office moved. The name changed to Maenam Om District.

In 1914 the government made another shift. The district office relocated to Tambon Pak Tho. This was a more convenient spot near the railway station. The old center became Wat Phleng a minor district. It remained a minor district for quite some time.

Wat Phleng eventually gained full district status. This happened on July 17 1963. This upgrade marked a significant turning point in its history. It’s a story of growth and evolution.

Today Wat Phleng boasts three subdistricts. These are further divided into 28 administrative villages. Each village adds to the unique fabric of Wat Phleng. It’s a fascinating blend of old and new.

The Khwae Om River flows nearby. This is a branch of the Mae Klong River. The river has been crucial to the district’s development over the years. It has shaped the landscape and the lives of its people.

Wat Phleng is more than just a geographical location. It’s a living testament to Thailand’s rich history. It’s a place where the past and present intertwine.
