Wat Nuan Noradit Worawihan

Could a temple have two names? Here at Wat Nuan Noradit Worawihan, the answer is a resounding yes. This beautiful temple, nestled on the western bank of the Khlong Bangkok Yai, holds a rich history. It was once known as Wat Makok Nai, meaning “Inside Bangkok canal temple.” Wat Nuan Noradit Worawihan’s history stretches back to the Ayutthaya Kingdom. It was deserted for a period. Then, at the end of Chao Khun Phra Ratchaphan (Nuan)’s reign, she spearheaded the temple’s restoration. Nuan, wife of Chao Phraya Akkhamahasena (Bunnag) and sister to Queen Amarindra, entrusted this important task to her son, Chao Phraya Phra khlang (Dit Bunnag). He completed the renovations in 1836, after finishing work on Wat Prayurawongsawat. King Rama V later renamed the temple Wat Nuan Noradit Worawihan to honor Chao Khun Phra Ratchaphan (Nuan). The temple has seen further restorations over the years, thanks to Chao Phraya Surawongwaiwat (Worn Bunnaak), Chao Phraya Passakorawong (Phon Bunnag), and Phra Sassananurak (Tim Rattanachoot), ensuring its continued beauty and significance.
