Hidden within Bangkok’s vibrant tapestry lies Wat Khu Sang. Let’s unravel its story together. Some sources place a Wat Khok Sung, also known as the “Monastery of the High Mound,” not in Bangkok, but in Ayutthaya. This Wat Khok Sung is described as being situated off the city island, in the southern area of Ayutthaya. The site is marked by a high brick mound covered in vegetation. Historical records place it east of Wat Thong and north of Wat Wihan Khian, about 200 meters from the east bank of Khlong Khu Cham. Unfortunately, details about its origins and construction remain a mystery. This Ayutthaya location appears on Phraya Boran Rachathanin’s map from 1926 and subsequent Fine Arts Department maps. Its geographical coordinates are listed as 14° 20′ 33.28″ N, 100° 33′ 57.13″ E. Given these conflicting locations, it’s clear there’s some confusion about Wat Khu Sang in Bangkok.
