“Did you know that Wat Bang Khun Thian Nok was once a landmark for the Bang Khun Thian people? This temple stands as a testament to faith and history. It is located in Bangkok’s Chom Thong District.

Wat Bang Khun Thian Nok was easily accessible via a canal. The canal flowed in front of it. It connected to the Chao Phraya River. This made it a central spot for community activities. Imagine the vibrant scenes of Loy Krathong. Envision bustling markets and joyous Songkran celebrations here.

Originally, Wat Bang Khun Thian Nok was known as Wat Yommalok. Two devout Buddhists built it around 1703. Later, they constructed Wat Bang Khunthian Klang nearby. After World War II, the abbot Phra Athikan Samniang renamed it Wat Bang Khun Thian Nok. This change aligned the temple’s name with the Bang Khun Thian neighborhood. Initially, it was in Bang Khunthian District but later became part of Jomthong.

The ordination hall showcases Chinese architectural style. It was built during the third reign. Notice the gable ends. They are adorned with porcelain in floral designs.

Inside the hall, you will find a Sukhothai style Buddha image. It is in the attitude of meditation. Fifteen other Buddha images surround it. Four chedis stand at the compass points of the ordination hall. The consecrated boundary spans 16 meters in width and 21 meters in length.

In 2007, Ms. Phanid Amon contributed funds. The money improved the ordination hall. It has been registered as an archaeological site by the Fine Arts Department. This includes its murals.
