Gazing upon this curious structure, one might wonder about its purpose. This, my friends, is the Wassertreppe, a unique fountain nestled in the heart of Berlin. The Wassertreppe sits serenely on a patch of lawn, just in front of the Eternithaus on Altonaer Straße. Created in 1997 by the artist Holger Uhrig, the Wassertreppe isn’t your typical splashing fountain. It’s a sculptural piece, a stepped concrete structure that tapers as it rises, open towards the street. Three central steps, etched with horizontal grooves, ascend the structure.
