The Queensland Government has designated Waraba as a new locality, stretching across a piece of land previously part of Bellmere and Wamuran. The name Waraba comes from the Kabi Kabi language, meaning “burn”. It refers to the traditional practices of fire-stick farming employed by the Kabi Kabi people. Waraba covers 2.3 square kilometres, the same size as 0.9 square miles. You can find Waraba in the City of Moreton Bay, approximately 152.8783 degrees East and 27.0867 degrees South. The postcode for this new locality is 4513. Its name is likely to cause confusion in the immediate future as it is the same as the name for the town in the area. There are no schools yet in Waraba. However, the nearest government primary school is Bellmere State School, located to the east. The nearest secondary school is Tullawong State High School, in Caboolture.
