“How did Wangzuo get its name?” someone asks. Wangzuo Town lies to the southwest of Fengtai District in Beijing. It is a place with a story that stretches back through time.

Wangzuo shares borders with several other towns and subdistricts. These include Yongding Township to the north and Beigong Town to the east. Changyang Town lies to the south. Qinglonghu and Tanzhesi Towns sit to the west.

The town’s story begins in the Qing Dynasty. A noble chose Wangzuo as his final resting place. This act of burial gave Wangzuo its name.

In 2020, Wangzuo was home to 59452 people. This gives it a population density of 1100 people per square kilometer. Wangzuo covers an area of 55.68 square kilometers.

Wangzuo has gone through many administrative changes. In 1945, it was part of Liangxiang County. Then in 1958, it became part of Fengtai District. Later, it joined Changxindian People’s Commune. By 1961, Wangzuo had separated and formed its own commune. It became Wangzuo Township in 1984. In 2001, Wangzuo officially became a town. Part of Yungang Subdistrict joined Wangzuo in 2021.

Today, Wangzuo consists of 12 subdivisions. There are four communities and eight villages. The communities include Nangong Yayuan Community and Shanyucheng Community. There are also Feicuishan Community and Nangong Jingyuan Community. The villages include Xizhuangdian Village and Shaguo Village. Guai Village and Weigezhuang Village are also part of Wangzuo. Xiwangzuo Village and Nangong Village add to the town’s diversity. Zhuanghu Village and Tianqi Village complete the subdivisions.
