From humble rubber estates rose Wangsa Maju. Once known as Hawthornden this Kuala Lumpur suburb transformed. It began in 1984 a significant year in the city’s history. This was during Kuala Lumpur’s tenth anniversary. Wangsa Maju became the second township developed by DBKL. Bandar Baru Tun Razak was the first.

Wangsa Maju’s development was a collaboration. DBKL and Paremba Berhad worked together. Many low to middle-income families benefited. Affordable housing was created. This helped many Malaysian families own homes.

The Kuala Lumpur Suburban Centre is Wangsa Maju’s commercial heart. Initially it was called Bandar Baru Titiwangsa Maju. Interestingly Wangsa Maju has sections 1 2 4 5 6 and 10. Sections 3 7 8 and 9 are absent.

Universities played a huge role. The presence of TAR UMT and UTAR (though UTAR later moved) attracted many students. This boosted the area’s residential growth. Wangsa Maju became a student hub.

Wangsa Maju’s future is green. DBKL plans to make Section 1 a zero-carbon township. This ambitious project emphasizes green technology. It includes pedestrian walkways jogging tracks and bicycle paths. Aging railings will be replaced with new ones.

Wangsa Maju offers much more. It has shopping malls like AEON Wangsa Maju and Wangsa Walk Mall. It has transport links. Two Rapid KL LRT stations serve the area. Wangsa Maju is well-connected to the rest of Kuala Lumpur. Major highways and expressways improve accessibility.

The political landscape is complex. The Wangsa Maju parliamentary seat includes areas outside the township itself. This has caused some confusion. The incumbent MP is Zahir Hassan of Pakatan Harapan-PKR.

So explore Wangsa Maju. Discover its history its growth and its ambitious future. This Kuala Lumpur suburb is a vibrant mix of old and new. It reflects Malaysia’s dynamic spirit. It’s a story of transformation and progress.
