Contemplate this. The new Waltham High School stands before us a testament to the city’s commitment to education. Completed in 2024, this state-of-the-art facility at 554 Lexington Street represents a new chapter for Waltham students.

Waltham High School is the only public high school in the city. It serves students in grades 9 through 12. Its enrollment was 1751 students in 2022-2023. The student-to-teacher ratio is impressively low at 10.84.

Did you know that Waltham High School’s construction was a significant undertaking? In 2019, the city approved a staggering $374 million loan. It was the largest in Massachusetts history for a public high school project. This investment reflects Waltham’s dedication to providing its students with the best possible learning environment.

The new Waltham High School boasts impressive features. It combines academic and vocational learning. There are 18 career technical programs. These include nursing, culinary arts, auto tech, and HVAC. Students gain on-the-job training without leaving the school.

Principal Darrell Braggs emphasized the importance of vocational training. He noted that not every student pursues college. The school recognizes the value of diverse career paths.

Dennis Breen, the HVAC teacher, highlighted the high demand for HVAC technicians. This program offers valuable skills. These skills can help students whether they choose college or not.

One of the highlights is the “Waltham room”. It is located on the fourth floor. This area features panoramic windows. It gives students a stunning view of the city. The 42-acre site includes a new gym, auditorium, classrooms, and collaborative spaces.

Waltham High School has a rich history of athletics. The football team was undefeated in 1906 and 1907. The cheerleading team has achieved remarkable success. They were state champions in 2016, 2021, 2022, and 2024. They were also national champions in 2016, 2017, 2021, and 2024.

The performing arts are thriving at Waltham High School. There are two competitive show choirs. These are “Music Unlimited” and “Music Express”. The school hosts the annual Eastern Show Choir Festival.

Waltham High School has produced many notable alumni. These include professional athletes like Mackenzy Bernadeau and Fred Smerlas. There is also Grammy Award winner Rob Chiarelli.

The impressive new building, the dedicated staff, and the diverse programs make Waltham High School a beacon of education in the community. As we stand here, we can feel the energy and potential within these walls. This is a place where students can learn, grow, and prepare for a bright future.
