Before them, teams like BSG Einheit Greifswald, BSG KKW Greifswald, and Greifswalder SC called this stadium home. This stadium has a rich football legacy. On May 13, 2015, Volksstadion hosted a historic event. The final of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Cup, a tournament held since 1990, was played here for the first time. Volksstadion also hosted a legendary match against Bayern Munich in 1997. A record-breaking crowd of 14,000 packed the stadium.
