In 1960, inspired by a visit to another park, the association, originally named Verein für Vogelschutz und Pflege e.V. Viernheim, partnered with the city to bring this avian haven to life. Vogelpark Viernheim started as a dream and blossomed into a 10,000 m² sanctuary. It has grown significantly over the years, even boasting a spacious free-flight hall. The park was even recognized by the state of Hesse as “Initiative of the Month” in April 2014. Vogelpark Viernheim isn’t just a collection of beautiful birds; it’s a dynamic ecosystem. From exotic Gelbbrustaras and talking Beos to various owls, ravens, and pheasants, each species adds its unique melody to the park’s vibrant soundscape. In 2023 alone, they celebrated the arrival of White-naped Crane chicks, vibrant Blue Peafowl, and the melodic Edwards’s Pheasant.
