Why is 2625 B Street so important to Kensington? Right now you are standing in front of Visitation B.V.M. Church. This church isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a beacon of hope in one of the most poverty-stricken neighborhoods in the nation. Visitation B.V.M. Church has been serving this community since 1873. The church we see today wasn’t always here. The original church stood at Cambria and C Streets. It was dedicated to St. Cecilia. In 1876 the cornerstone was laid here and the name changed to Our Lady of the Visitation. Over the years Visitation B.V.M. Church has been more than just a church. It’s been a school, a community center, and a source of unwavering support for generations. Its mission is simple yet profound: to spread God’s good news, offer spiritual uplifting, and provide safety and unity for all. Even today as we celebrate 150 years of Visitation B.V.M. Church, the spirit of its mission remains as strong as ever. It stands as a testament to the enduring power of faith, community, and love.
