Perhaps Milan’s “Olympic spirit” is most visible right here at the Villaggio Olimpico 2026 – Parco Porta Romana. This isn’t just about sports. It’s about legacy. The Villaggio Olimpico 2026 – Parco Porta Romana serves as the primary space for the 2026 Winter Olympics. Afterwards it will be returned to the city’s community as a valuable asset.

The Villaggio Olimpico 2026 – Parco Porta Romana is located in the south-west area of the railway yard. This location ensures harmony with existing functions and the neighborhood. This area covers 60,000 square meters. It includes six new buildings and two restored industrial structures. An Olympic plaza will also be built here at Villaggio Olimpico 2026 – Parco Porta Romana.

Imagine 1,400 athletes from around the world converging here. The Villaggio Olimpico 2026 – Parco Porta Romana will welcome them. After the games, these apartments transform into student housing. Approximately 10,000 square meters of services connected to the Olympic event will convert into private services. These will be available for public use.

During the Olympics, the large plaza at the entrance will welcome athletes and visitors to the Villaggio Olimpico 2026 – Parco Porta Romana. Inner spaces will provide functional areas for athletes. Cafeterias and medical areas are planned. There will also be communal spaces for relaxation. A communication center and reception area will serve the sports delegations.

Delivery of the Villaggio Olimpico 2026 – Parco Porta Romana to the Milano Cortina Foundation is expected before July 31 2025. It will then be returned to the city before July 31 2026. The goal is to transform the structure into student housing for the 2026 academic year.

Notably, Villaggio Olimpico 2026 – Parco Porta Romana aims to be the “first 0 km village”. Greenhouses and vegetable gardens are planned. These will provide locally sourced food to the student residences and visitors. A digital platform will manage the food production. Shops, events, and farmer’s markets will create a vibrant space.

Private services and general services will become public use spaces. These spaces will benefit both students and the city. Plazas will be returned as social exchange and meeting places.

The design of the Villaggio Olimpico 2026 – Parco Porta Romana comes from Skidmore Owings & Merrill SOM. The construction of the Olympic Village is proceeding quickly. The structures are expected to be completed in early 2024. This meets the July 2025 deadline for delivery to the Milan Cortina Foundation.

This project embodies sustainability. More than 60% of the energy will come from renewable sources. Rainwater will be collected and reused. This will result in a 40% reduction in CO2 emissions for heating and cooling. Public and equipped green spaces will represent about 50% of the area. Architect Michel Desvigne designed these spaces in coordination with the masterplan.

After the Olympics, the Villaggio Olimpico 2026 – Parco Porta Romana will become a hub for sustainable urban living. Residences, offices, social housing and services will rise around the central park. These will connect to the metropolitan area via railway and metro stations.

So the Villaggio Olimpico 2026 – Parco Porta Romana is more than just a venue. It is a symbol of Milan’s commitment to a sustainable future. It is a place where sport, community, and innovation converge.
