Seven hundred and ninety-three souls call Plandome Manor home. That’s the magic number. A number whispering secrets of a Long Island village. A village rich in history nestled on the North Shore.

Plandome Manor isn’t just a place on a map. It’s a story etched in time. Incorporated in 1931 its name echoes the Latin “Planus Domus” meaning plain or level home. This perfectly describes its peaceful landscape. But the tranquility masks a vibrant past.

Imagine Matthias Nicoll’s wood-frame manor house. Built in the 1670s it was one of the first homesteads in Cow Neck. It stood for centuries a testament to early settlers. Sadly it was torn down in 1998. Replaced by another estate. It still holds a place in Plandome Manor’s memory.

Then there’s Fairseat. The home of Frances Hodgson Burnett. Author of *The Secret Garden*. She built it in 1908. She lived there until her death in 1924. Her home later burned down. Only the carriage house and garden remained. A poignant reminder of a literary legacy.

Leroy Grumman a later resident is another notable figure. He was the co-founder of Grumman Aerospace Corporation. His presence adds another layer to Plandome Manor’s intriguing history.

Plandome Manor has a unique geography too. Leeds Pond sits in the northeastern part of the village. The highest point is at the Plandome Country Club around 160 feet. Manhasset Bay provides the lowest point at sea level. The land gently slopes down to meet the water.

The village is mainly served by the Manhasset Union Free School District. The eastern portion falls under the Port Washington Union Free School District. Plandome Manor children study in one of these districts. Depending on where they live within the village.

The village’s current Mayor is Barbara Donno. Her leadership contributes to its character. The Deputy Mayor is Matthew Clinton. The Trustees are James Baydar Tony DeSousa and Patricia O’Neill. They all guide Plandome Manor’s future.

Plandome Manor’s story is more than just dates and names. It’s about the legacy of its residents. The quiet strength of a community living on the North Shore of Long Island. It’s a story of families. A story of quiet elegance. A story only Plandome Manor can tell. A story waiting to unfold for you.
