Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be college-bound from kindergarten? Village Christian School, nestled in the Shadow Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles, embodies this very idea. Founded in 1949 by Pastor Phil Gibson of the Village Church in Burbank, Village Christian School started as a community outreach. It offered quality private education at an affordable price. The school’s initial home was within the walls of the Village Church. The vision then, as now, was to welcome families of all faiths and backgrounds. Village Christian School quickly outgrew its Burbank location. In 1957, the school purchased its current location on Penrose and Village Avenue. The campus has expanded to an impressive 110 acres, with 30 acres developed. At one point, Village Christian School held the title of the largest Christian school on a single campus west of the Mississippi. The school continues to evolve, adding new buildings and programs to meet the needs of its approximately 1,100 students from kindergarten to 12th grade. Village Christian School has earned numerous accolades. In 2003, it was designated a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. The school boasts a remarkable college acceptance rate. In 2017, every graduating senior was accepted into at least one four-year university. In 2019, students achieved a 73% pass rate on AP exams, exceeding national averages in many subjects. That same year, the school celebrated 601 college acceptances and $9 million in scholarships. Village Christian School isn’t just about academics. It offers a vibrant blend of educational excellence, spiritual development, and extracurricular activities. From athletics and fine arts to a wide range of clubs, there’s something for everyone. The school’s motto, “College-Bound from Kindergarten, Christ-Centered for Life,” speaks to its commitment to preparing students for success in college and beyond. Village Christian School continues to thrive. It remains a beacon of quality Christian education in Los Angeles, nurturing students to become leaders and influencers in their communities and the world.
