Originally a humble gathering in a Tarragindi home, Village Avenue Community Church stands as a beacon of faith. It offers community support in Coopers Plains. The story of Village Avenue Community Church began in the 1930s. Mr and Mrs Goodhew opened their home to war veterans and pensioners. They offered love practical help and the Gospel.

Soon the Sunday school and evening meetings outgrew their home. The Goodhews extended their house. Yet the growing numbers still needed more space. In 1948 a hall was built on Franklin Street in Annerley. It was named Annerley Gospel Chapel. By 1966, even this chapel needed an extension due to continued growth.

By the early 1990s the church faced limitations. The land location and a lack of vision hindered progress. Leaders decided to sell the property. They employed their first pastor. They also enlarged the vision for the church. God led them to The Village Avenue in Coopers Plains. The church met at Coopers Plains State School during construction. This lasted a few years. Church members volunteered many Saturdays. They minimized building costs.

In 1997 the Governor of Queensland officially opened Village Avenue Community Church. The church is now debt-free. Its name reflects its desire to be a relevant part of the local community. The Village Avenue Community Church has a strong community presence. This is achieved through children’s and youth ministries. They are active both in the church and in the local school. The church runs a busy emergency relief program. It meets the needs of disadvantaged families.

Village Avenue Community Church is affiliated with Christian Community Churches of Australia. This network supports evangelical churches. They strengthen each other for the benefit of local communities. Village Avenue Community Church focuses on Jesus Christ. It teaches the Word of God. It demonstrates God’s love.

The church’s mission is fivefold. First build an authentic Christian community. Second reach people with the Good News about Jesus. Third grow believers into committed followers. Fourth empower believers to serve God. Fifth glorify God in everything.

Today Village Avenue Community Church continues its mission. It holds Sunday services. Kids Church meets at 10:00 AM. Worship service is at 9:30 AM. Other activities include emergency food relief playgroup prayer meetings community lunch kids rally One80 Youth home groups young adults seniors and kids games.
