It stands proudly overlooking a picturesque park, a testament to the illustrious Verri family who once called it their home. It’s much more than a beautiful building, standing as a symbol of a powerful family and their contributions to the city. The Verri family was a family of intellectuals and artists, known for their contributions to the Italian Enlightenment. While they were deeply involved in Milanese political affairs, they loved to retreat to Biassono in the summer. In the heart of the villa, they hosted esteemed figures from the worlds of literature, science, and politics. A true symbol of the family was Pietro Verri, who became a leading figure in the Italian Enlightenment. He founded the first Italian newspaper, “Il Caffè,” with fellow scholar Cesare Beccaria. “Il Caffè” brought a renewed sense of intellectual liberation, sparking debate, and promoting a society based on reason and progress. You can almost feel the spirit of discourse in the villa’s walls, as if whispers of these great intellectuals linger here. The villa boasts a vibrant history. Although the villa’s interiors have lost some of their original grandeur, we can still experience the beauty of the park, designed in the French style of parterres.
