Picture this. You stand before Victory Temple Church of God in Houston. Its history stretches back to around 1941. It began as Houston #2 Church of God. The congregation quickly outgrew its original building on Texarkana Street. They moved a short distance to Harbor Street. There the name changed to Harbor Street Church of God.
In 1958 the congregation showed incredible dedication. They sold baked pies to fund improvements. These included brick exterior sheetrock interior carpeting and air conditioning. A significant step forward occurred in the early 1970s. The church purchased its current location at 846 Ashland in Channelview. The name shifted again to Woodforest Church of God and later Woodforest Worship Center.
Pastor and Diana Taylor’s arrival in 1990 marked a new era. They led a building program. This resulted in the construction of Victory Center. This multi-functional building boasts a gym kitchen classrooms and evangelist quarters. Crucially the church’s name transformed into Victory Temple.
May 2007 brought a momentous occasion. The church was able to pay off its property debt. God’s blessings continued. Opportunities arose to purchase additional property. This expansion further solidified Victory Temple’s presence in the community. Victory Temple Church of God continues to thrive today. It’s a testament to faith resilience and community spirit. The legacy of baked pie sales and unwavering commitment lives on. The church remains a vital part of the Houston landscape. It continues to serve and inspire generations.
