Victory Community Church, located on Almeda Genoa Road in Houston, has a rich and inspiring history. It’s a story of faith, perseverance, and a commitment to community.
Victory Community Church was born from the vision of Pastor Otis Petteway. He planted the seed of this church while serving as a campus pastor in Lake Jackson, under the mentorship of Dr. Michael P. Williams of The Genesis Church in Houston. In 2018, Pastor Petteway began hosting “The Victory Experience” services. These gatherings laid the foundation for what would officially become Victory Community Church in January 2019.
The church’s journey wasn’t always easy. They held services at the Clarion Inn in Lake Jackson for six months. Then, a fortuitous call led them to a location in Angleton on Henderson Road. There, they launched community outreach programs like back-to-school giveaways, Thanksgiving giveaways, and Angel Tree Drives. They faced the challenges of COVID-19, adapting with virtual services and continuing to serve the community with food and mask drives. In 2021, they found a new home on Kiber Street in Angleton.
Tragedy struck in 2022 with the passing of Dr. Williams. Pastor Petteway stepped up to lead both The Genesis Church and Victory Community Church. For a time, both congregations met separately, until a decision was made to merge them under the name Victory Community Church, with the poignant tagline “The Genesis of JOY”. This unification brought together two communities, strengthening bonds and carrying forward the legacy of both Dr. Williams and Pastor Petteway.
Finally, in April 2023, Victory Community Church found its current home on Almeda Genoa Road in Houston. The church continues its mission of creating a “Christ-centered culture of victorious living”, providing a haven for those seeking hope and belonging. It’s a place where the spirit of victory resonates, not just in name, but in the lives of the people who call it home. Their mission is to place Jesus back at the center of families and the community, a testament to the enduring power of faith and the unwavering spirit of Victory Community Church.
