Doesn’t the name Victory Baptist Church just ring with promise? Victory Baptist has stood for over 60 years. The church has constantly evolved through the molding of Jesus Christ.

Victory Baptist faced many challenges. But the Lord has remained faithful. The Victory Baptist Church loves God and His people. The mission is clear: make disciples and glorify Him. Victory Baptist strives to bless the community through outreach.

Now, let’s delve into the origins of this steadfast church. On January 7, 1962, Victory Baptist Church was organized. It began with eight people in Rev. Mother Preston’s home. They formed a New Testament Church. Rev. James Alfred Smith Preston became the first Pastor.

The first worship service was held at Myers Memorial Chapel. On January 22, 1962, the Eastern Keystone Baptist Association held a recognition service. This service took place at the chapel on 4141 Westminster Ave.

In 1964, Victory Baptist secured a property at 4918-20 Fairmount Ave. By 1967, the mortgage was paid off. In 1968, the Articles of Incorporation were approved. A new location was dedicated on November 21, 1970.

Rev. Preston served until his passing in 1984. Rev. William Cross was installed as Pastor in 1985. He served until his retirement in 2011. Minister Rashid J. Goins succeeded him in December 2011.

Under Rev. William Cross, services moved temporarily to Price Funeral Home. This was due to carbon dioxide in the building. Under Pastor Rashid Goins, the church endured two fires. The first fire occurred on March 18, 2018. Services moved to St. Ignatius Nursing Home. A second fire struck on January 4, 2019. Repairs were finalized, and the church moved back on September 15, 2019.

Pastor Rashid Goins resigned in 2020. Minister Dwight Chavis was unanimously voted in as the new Pastor. His installation service was held on May 1, 2022.
