Completed in 1975, the Viaduc de Magnan stands as a testament to modern engineering. The Viaduc de Magnan carries the A8 motorway over the Madeleine Valley in Nice. It’s the highest bridge on this motorway, an impressive 110 meters above the ground. The Viaduc de Magnan isn’t just one bridge. It’s actually two parallel viaducts, built very close together. The south viaduct was finished in 1975. The north viaduct followed in 1983. Until the north section opened, all traffic flowed on the south viaduct. Now, each bridge carries two lanes of traffic in one direction and an emergency stopping lane. This makes the Viaduc de Magnan not only a marvel of construction, but also a vital artery for the region.
