Hidden within Hamburg’s urban tapestry lies the Vegetative Komposition. This bronze sculpture, crafted by Hans Kock in 1968, captivates with its organic form. The Vegetative Komposition seems to unfurl, opening above its stem like a blossoming flower. Located in Farmsen-Berne, it graces the green space near the Birckholtzweg 1 high-rise. It’s a hidden gem, a testament to the power of art to transform public spaces. The Vegetative Komposition was commissioned under the “Art in Construction” program. It was purchased by the Baugesellschaft Neues Hamburg, known today as SAGA. The sculpture remains under SAGA’s ownership. Interestingly, the Vegetative Komposition shares a resemblance to another of Kock’s works, the Tektonische Rose I, created in 1979. This later piece echoes the organic, unfolding form seen in the Vegetative Komposition. The sculpture stands as a testament to Kock’s artistic vision, a vision that brought life and beauty to Hamburg’s urban landscape.
