“Winch” is what Varoulko means in Greek. It is a fitting name considering its chef Lefteris Lazarou’s history. Varoulko Seaside offers not just a meal but a sensory experience.

Chef Lazarou’s journey began far from any traditional culinary school. Born in 1952 his father worked as a ship-chef. At 15 Lefteris joined his father during summers. He cooked and travelled. This early exposure to diverse cuisines shaped his culinary perspective.

Working on cruise ships taught him adaptability. He learned to adjust Greek dishes to suit various palates. This experience sparked a dream. Lazarou wanted to create a “boat” on land. It would be a kitchen untouched by the rocking waves.

In October 1987, that dream materialized. He opened Varoulko in Piraeus. The restaurant became his canvas. Here Lazarou crafts seafood plates. He uses the freshest ingredients he finds daily. He wanders through markets searching for inspiration.

Varoulko Seaside is more than just a restaurant. It is a legacy. In 2002, Varoulko earned a Michelin star. It was the first Greek restaurant in Greece to achieve this honor. This award cemented its place as an international culinary destination.

The location of Varoulko Seaside is key to its charm. Situated in Mikrolimano marina it boasts stunning views. The Athens Riviera stretches out before you. You can enjoy a simple lunch. Alternatively you can choose a fine dining experience. The menu features dishes like fish roe dip. There is also grilled cuttlefish with caramelized lentils and orange sauce.

Lefteris Lazarou is an ambassador for Greek cuisine. He has travelled extensively promoting Greek olive oil. He even taught at the Culinary Institute of America. He has also received many awards. He was named “Chef of the Year” multiple times.

Varoulko has been recognized as the “Best Greek Cuisine Restaurant”. It has also been called “The Best Restaurant in the City” by Athinorama guide. Lazarou was also a judge on “Master Chef”. He also wrote cookbooks for both adults and children.

The aesthetic of Varoulko Seaside enhances the dining experience. Blue hues and earthy tones evoke the sea. Elegant paintings and embellishments add to the atmosphere. It all creates a mood. It allows guests to fully appreciate Lazarou’s cooking.

Varoulko Seaside offers a 360 fine dining experience. It combines exceptional food with a beautiful setting. The restaurant reflects Lazarou’s philosophy. He takes inspiration from the sea. He respects tradition. He is also committed to innovation.

Varoulko remains a testament to his vision. It is a place where seafood becomes an art form. Every dish showcases Lazarou’s expertise. He uses elite techniques. He has the freshest raw materials. This results in a unique and unforgettable dining experience.
