Five pavilions rise before you. This is the UQAM Complexe des sciences Pierre-Dansereau. A modern marvel it’s nestled on a city block. The streets of Sherbrooke Ouest Saint-Urbain President-Kennedy and Jeanne-Mance surround it.

The complex isn’t just buildings. It’s a green oasis too. Imagine winding paths. Lush indigenous plants thrive. Thirteen plant families create a living laboratory. The colours change beautifully with each season. This design was inspired by large American universities. The UQAM Complexe des sciences Pierre-Dansereau cleverly blends nature and science.

Let’s explore its heart. The President-Kennedy Pavilion houses departments of mathematics computer science and Earth and atmospheric sciences. It also contains research labs and the UQAM Institute of Environmental Sciences. Did you know there’s even a weather station on its roof?

The Chemistry and Biochemistry Pavilion is a technical masterpiece. Seven stories tall with over 90 labs. It houses state-of-the-art equipment. Connected to the President-Kennedy Pavilion via a walkway it also boasts an animal facility.

The Biology Sciences Pavilion built between 2003 and 2005 is eco-friendly. It uses rainwater and heat recovery systems. Recycled materials are prevalent. Even showers for cyclists are provided. This reflects the complex’s commitment to sustainability.

The Sherbrooke Pavilion is the oldest. Built between 1909 and 1911 its Beaux-Arts style is a stunning contrast to the modern pavilions. Restored in 1996 it houses classrooms an amphitheatre and a multi-purpose hall. Its history as part of Montreal’s Technical School is fascinating.

The UQAM Complexe des sciences Pierre-Dansereau isn’t just about research and education. It’s a testament to thoughtful urban planning. A place where nature science and history harmoniously coexist. A true Montreal gem.
