Perhaps unsurprisingly Unna I isn’t a place. It’s a political boundary. Specifically Unna I is a German electoral constituency.
Unna I sends one member to the Bundestag. This is done via first-past-the-post voting. The constituency is currently designated as number 143. Before 2025 it was known as 144.
It is located in the Ruhr region of North Rhine-Westphalia. Unna I comprises the southern part of the district of Unna.
Consider this Unna I includes Bergkamen. It also includes Bönen. Fröndenberg is part of it. Holzwickede too. Kamen, Schwerte and Unna are also included. These are all municipalities within the Unna district.
Unna I was created for the 1965 federal election. Originally it was simply known as Unna. It acquired the name Unna I in 1980. The constituency’s borders have changed over time. Originally Unna I was coterminous with the Unna district. It acquired its current borders in 1980.
Since its creation the Social Democratic Party or SPD has continuously held Unna I. Manfred Schulte first represented Unna I. He served from 1965 to 1987. Ulrich Böhme then took over. He was representative from 1987 to 1998. Rolf Stöckel followed. He remained until 2009. Oliver Kaczmarek was elected in 2009. He was re-elected in 2013. He was again re-elected in 2017 and 2021.
In 2021 Oliver Kaczmarek of the SPD won with 40.8 percent of the vote. Hubert Hüppe of the CDU received 25.1 percent. Michael Sacher of the Greens got 13.9 percent. Ulrich Lehmann of the AfD secured 8.0 percent. Suat Gülden of the FDP got 6.2 percent. Andreas Meier of the Left party received 3.2 percent.
Turnout was 76.1 percent. Kaczmarek won a majority of 23059 votes. This marked a 15.7 percent lead over his nearest rival.
In 2017 Oliver Kaczmarek of the SPD won again. He secured 38.8 percent of the vote. Hubert Hüppe of the CDU received 31.8 percent. Andreas Handt of the AfD got 9.1 percent. Heike Schaumann of the FDP secured 6.4 percent. Michael Sacher of the Greens also received 6.4 percent. Ruth Tietz of the Left party got 5.4 percent.
The turnout was 76.2 percent. Kaczmarek’s majority was 10567 votes. That was a 7.0 percent lead.
In 2013 Oliver Kaczmarek of the SPD won with 46.7 percent. Hubert Hüppe of the CDU received 35.8 percent. Malte Spitz of the Greens got 5.6 percent. Walter Wendt-Kleinberg of the Left party secured 5.3 percent.
The turnout was 74.0 percent. Kaczmarek had a majority of 15854 votes. This represented a 10.9 percent lead.
In 2009 Oliver Kaczmarek of the SPD won with 42.6 percent. Hubert Hüppe of the CDU received 32.4 percent. Friedrich Ostendorff of the Greens got 8.7 percent. Walter Wendt-Kleinberg of the Left party secured 8.5 percent.
The turnout was 73.4 percent. Kaczmarek’s majority was 14936 votes. This was a 10.2 percent lead.
