Established in 1919 as the Visayan Institute, the University of the Visayas – Main Campus has witnessed Cebu City’s transformation over the decades. The university, affectionately known as UV, stands proudly on Colon Street. It’s the first educational institution in Cebu to achieve university status, a distinction earned in 1948. Originally, the Visayan Institute occupied just two rented rooms at the City Intermediate School. Imagine the growth from those humble beginnings to the bustling campus you see today. The University of the Visayas – Main Campus houses eight colleges, offering diverse undergraduate and graduate programs. From Education and Arts and Sciences to Law and Business Administration, UV caters to a wide range of academic pursuits. The Business Administration department holds a special recognition as a Center of Development by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). Several programs, including Business Administration, Nursing, Political Science, and Education, have earned Level III accreditation from the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA). Beyond its collegiate offerings, the University of the Visayas – Main Campus also has a Senior High School department with both Academic and Technical-Vocational-Livelihood tracks. The university’s main campus isn’t its only presence in Cebu. UV extends its reach with eight satellite campuses across the province, located in Banilad, Minglanilla, Toledo, Pardo, Mandaue, Danao, Dalaguete, and Compostela. The University of the Visayas – Main Campus, with its rich history and diverse programs, stands as a testament to the power of education in Cebu.
