It then became the School of Meteorological Officer. Later it was known as the Hanoi Meteorological and Hygiene Staff School. In 2001 it became the College of Meteorology and Hydrology Hanoi. The Central Cadastral High School I merged with it in 2005. This formed the Hanoi College of Natural Resources and Environment. Finally in 2010 it achieved university status.

The university’s infrastructure includes two campuses. The main campus is in Hanoi. There is also a campus in Thanh Hóa. The main campus in Hanoi has a total land area of nearly 69000 square meters. It offers dormitories for over 2000 students. Two scientific information centers provide resources for learning. These include traditional and electronic libraries.

The Hanoi University of Natural Resources and Environment offers various departments of training. At the university level, students can study land management. Natural resource management and marine management are further options. The university also provides courses in climate change and environmental engineering. Information technology and meteorology are also available.

The university also offers college and university transfer programs. Students can pursue master’s degrees in environmental science. Other options include hydrology and land management. Doctoral programs are available in environmental science.

The Hanoi University of Natural Resources and Environment has received several awards. These include the Second-class Labor Medal in 2003 and 2005. It received the First-Class Labor Medal in 2010. The Friendship Medal of the People’s Republic of Laos was awarded in 2012. These accolades recognize the university’s contributions to education.
