Today, the University of Macau stands as a public comprehensive research university. The campus is on Hengqin Island. This land is leased to and governed by Macau. Did you know that in 2009, the Chinese government authorized Macau to exercise jurisdiction over this new campus?

The University of Macau campus spans 1.09 square kilometers. It features over 60 buildings. A bridge and an underwater tunnel connect the campus to Macau. This unique arrangement means no border controls exist between the university and Macau. The campus was designed by He Jingtang. He is a renowned architect.
